Wondering where the boating/sailing/budgeting related posts are? Well…
Fun fact: April is “National Poetry Month”
For those of you who didn’t know, I write poetry sometimes. I even have a blog for it. ^_^ Every year since 2008 I have participated in “NaPoWriMo” (National Poetry Writing Month) and the associated 30/30 challenge (a poem a day in April). Every year I make a “chapbook” (small pamphlet style book – think 8.5″ x 11″ folded in half). This year is no exception.
What is new for me is that this year the book is mostly from prompts from acclaimed contemporary poet Rachel McKibbens who has appeared on television and won awards and such. Currently she is on tour with The Outlast Project which is her way of doing two things: 1. raising awareness of assault (especially sexual) and 2. promoting the continued healing of survivors through poetry in conjunction with arts and crafts. I fully support this for so many reasons.
With this in mind I am throwing my whole self into this month’s poetry. I am not only producing a book, but I am going to actually actively market it with intentions of dividing the proceeds between The Outlast Project and the local women’s shelter. Also, it will be
published via Swimming with Elephants Publications in a collaborative effort. They will produce and distribute the book at cost so that all the profit will go to the charities.
The poems will be written this month and edited/arranged in May for a June release. There will be a Kickstarter campaign to cover the production and distribution costs. I’ll be posting about it in my poetry blog so stay tuned!
Worry not though dear readers! The blogging about the trip will return soon! Probably sooner than the end of the month as we are still dealing with BOATING ON A BUDGET. This part of our lives is a nearly daily process. Stay tuned! ^_^
As always, THANKS FOR READING!
